Few churches can realize their ‘ultimate dream’ building or campus, let alone afford to purchase land and build what they need to meet current needs. For this reason, we develop phased master plans that maximize the potential of a church’s property over time. It is a sound approach to design for current needs in such a way that future growth can be readily accommodated. In one sense, the plan does provide a picture of the ultimate dream. Rather than serving as an exact blueprint for what the church will build after the first phase, it provides a workable framework within which continued growth can occur. The details of the future phases are worked-out in the future. (This only makes sense, for as the ministry continues to grow over time, the vision of what is now the “distant future” gets nearer and clearer. )
Master plan deliverables typically include accurate site plans and schematic building plans, with the first phase being developed as a 3-dimensional model. For existing facilities, the master plan will include potential expansion along with re-allocation of existing spaces or modified circulation patterns.
